We are committed to increasing our use of recycled and sustainable materials

Using sustainable materials is a key part of our environmental responsibility goals. We will optimise our use of sustainable materials and scrap materials, increase our product durability and recyclability, and promote the use of microfibre.

FSC-certified wood products

All wooden products in Vikan’s Classic Range are FSC certified (FSC C163353). FSC contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals 14 and 17 and is the world’s most ambitious global certification for responsible forest management. The certification guarantees that the wood used in our products is sustainably sourced from well-managed forests. Together with you as a customer, we help to ensure responsible forestry.

Food-safe recycled plastics

Food-safe recycled plastics

The materials we use for our Hygiene and UST ranges are strictly regulated, as they often come into contact with food. Because of this, it is currently not possible to use post-consumer recycled plastics for these products. However, as members of the Danish Plastic Federation, we are keeping an eye on the development of food-contact approved recycled plastics.

Classic and Transport Ranges

Classic and Transport ranges

Our Classic and Transport ranges both make use of recycled plastics. More than 90% of our injection moulded products in the Classic Range (when feasible) were converted to regenerated plastics. As of May 2024, approximately 40% of applicable materials in the Transport range have been converted to recycled materials. By the end of 2024, we expect more than 90% of the range will have been converted. On our website, each tool that contains recycled plastic has a percent symbol and number to indicate its amount of recycled content.

Ultra-Slim Brush

Our Ultra-Slim Brush makes use of the cut-offs from other Vikan products. The blocks are made entirely from the discards that come from manufacturing other food-contact compliant polypropylene tools. Because the material never leaves our control, we can safely comply with rules for food-safe materials.

Nordic Swan Ecolabel

Nordic Swan Ecolabel

Vikan follows the rigorous standards required by the Nordic Swan Ecolabel in the production of our microfibre products. Products bearing the Nordic Swan Ecolabel meet the world’s strictest sustainability standards throughout their lifecycles and are certified to have the lowest possible environmental impact. Materials Fact Sheet

Recycled or regenerated plastics are already used in several Vikan products, but what are recycled and regenerated plastics? And what do the terms bio-based, biodegradable, and recyclable plastics mean? Our ‘Materials Fact Sheet’ explains the difference.
