What does it mean?

  • Filament retention re-engineered
  • Fully moulded
  • Reduced risk of filament loss

What are the benefits to the end-user?

  • Minimised risk of foreign bodies from the cleaning tools (no metal or resin, reduced risk of filament loss)
    • Less product rejections, product recalls, and waste
    • Less associated costs
    • Brand/business protection
    • Greater peace of mind

Difference Explained

Plastics in foodstuffs are some of the most commonly reported foreign bodies. This includes plastic filaments from cleaning brushware.
Investigations conducted by Vikan show that filament retention in traditional drilled and stapled, and resin set, drilled and stapled
brushware can be highly variable. The new UST technology solves this problem.

Drilled and stapled

A filament bundle is secured in the drilled hole with a metal staple.

Filament fixation depends on:

  • its position within the filament bundle
  • whether other filaments have already been dislodged
  • the thickness of the filament

If one filament dislodges, the whole bundle becomes looser and subsequent filaments require less force to be pulled out.

Resin set, drilled & stapled

Resin set, drilled and stapled brushware also utilises drilled and stapled technology but additionally uses epoxy resin, which is poured around the filament bundles, to further secure the filaments.

Filament fixation depends on:

  • its position within the filament bundle – the resin helps secure the outer filaments
  • whether other filaments have already been dislodged
  • the thickness of the filaments

The resin does not secure all of the filaments equally and those in the centre of the filament bundle may not be secured by resin at all. Consequently, filament retention is variable and, if a filament from the centre of the bundle is dislodged, others in the bundle can become looser and easier to dislodge.

*Some products containing resin are not fully compliant with the EU regulations.

Ultra Safe Technology

Each filament is individually moulded into the brush head.

Filament fixation is consistent regardless of:

  • position of the filament in the bundle
  • whether other filaments have been dislodged

Further ways by which UST technology reduces the risk of foreign body contamination:

  • no risk of metal (staple) fragments in the food product
  • no risk of resin in the food product
  • the hygienic design of the UST brushes means that there is minimal risk of other foreign bodies being harboured and transferred.
