International Association for Food Protection
The IAFP’s focus is protecting the global food supply. Within the association, there are educators, government officials, microbiologists, food industry executives and quality control professionals who are involved in all aspects of growing, storing, transporting, processing and preparing all types of foods. IAFP members, representing more than 50 countries, help the association achieve its mission through networking, educational programmes, journals, career opportunities and numerous other resources. Vikan are Gold Sustaining Members of IAFP, and Deb Smith (Vikan Global Hygiene Specialist) and Jack Burnett (North American Hygiene Specialist) are individual members. Deb has been a member of IAFP for 20 years and, in 2023, received their Sanitarian Award. Jack has been a member for 10 years and is Secretary of the Food Hygiene and Sanitation PDG. Both have presented on numerous occasions at the international meeting. Additionally in 2025, Vikan were proud to sponsor the Food Safety Award at the European IAFP event.
The IAFP has Affiliate Associations throughout the world. IAFP Affiliates are organisations whose objectives are consistent with those of IAFP and whose members have united to apply for a formal Charter as an Affiliate Association, under conditions stipulated in the IAFP Bylaws.
The United Kingdom Association for Food Protection is an affiliate of the IAFP. UKAFP aims to ensure networking and educational opportunities for its members, and to participate and represent the affiliate members on the International Association Affiliate Council and Executive Board. Deb is Vice-President of the UKAFP and activity involved with organising and presenting at the associated annual food safety conference in Wales.
Jack is a member of the Board for the Wisconsin Association for Food Protection, IAFP affiliate, where he holds the position of Administrator.
Jack also serves on the management committee for The Journal of Food Protection, IAFP's peer-reviewed journal.
