Retired Customer Service Consultant
Mona Lauritsen
Mona started at Vikan in 1979 and retired after 44 years of service in 2023. Mona started at Vikan as an “all-around office trainee”. At that time, part of the training was to try out different departments and tasks.
Mona knew from the beginning that her path lay within Customer Service. The passion for helping, guiding, and advising Vikan’s customers on choosing the right tools is Mona’s main reason for staying at Vikan all these years.
Even though Mona’s main passion has always been customer service, she also held a role as Safety Representative for a period. During this time, Mona and a colleague introduced safety shoes to the production and the warehouse along with height-adjustable desks for office employees when new regulations for working environments began to emerge.
In 44 years, a lot of changes have happened, and these changes are a big part of Mona’s Vikan history. She describes the biggest change as digitalisation and technology. If she has to pinpoint one moment of change as the biggest, it was when Vikan got its first computers. The company wanted to purchase one computer, but Mona asked if Accounting and Customer Service were meant to use this computer at the same time. After that, Vikan ordered two computers. From that moment on, Mona says everything was faster and easier to structure. During the next 6 months, Vikan invested in computers for all office employees.
There has also been a huge development within products and Mona remembers when the Vikan products began to be produced in different colours. At the time, Mona was a little sceptical towards the idea of colour coded products, however she says that it has been very exciting to follow the development and to watch Vikan become a pioneer in the food industry with products in 12 different colours today.
"I am very proud that I am able to teach new colleagues and pass on my experience"
Mona, Retired Customer Service Consultant
One of the things that makes Mona very proud is being able to teach and help her colleagues. She finds it very important to share her many years of experience and she always has time to help a colleague when they have a question. Another thing Mona takes pride in is receiving a big sales order from a customer, even after 44 years.
If Mona were to give Vikan some advice for the next 125 years, it is to listen to the customers: “Vikan has to keep following the input that comes from the customers. It is the customers who know what the needs of the markets are, and that dialogue is very important to hold on to.”
What will you miss the most when you retire?
When I retire in the summer, the thing I am going to miss the most is the sense of community I have with my colleagues every day. Besides that, I am going to miss interacting with Vikan’s customers and answering their questions. I love being in Customer Service and I always have.
