Challenge

Carrefour Belgium hosts individual counters serving fresh and processed meats, fish, and baked goods and delicatessen within the majority of its stores.
Carrefour Belgium's has high quality standards and recognises that a spotlessly clean environment will enhance the customer experience. HACCP regulations on food safety and the avoidance of cross contamination also mean that all staff must fully understand the need for and have the resources to efficiently deliver a hygienically clean environment.
It also important to Carrefour Belgium that they can produce evidence that the highest levels of hygiene and cleanliness are being achieved and maintained on their premises.

Solution

In the majority of the Belgian stores, Carrefour implemented Vikan's colour-coded system This simple-to-use programme is designed to improve a company's internal hygiene control, boost staff confidence and minimise cross contamination, while also making it easier to maintain and document the company's HACCP compliance.
Carrefour Belgium used Vikan's free IT-based colour coding service to divide the retail facilities into visually separated zones based on activity, and assign each zone its own colour of cleaning tools and hanging brackets. A copy of the cleaning tools list and zone of use is stored in the HACCP file and with the procurement team to make reordering easier.
Vikan tools are made of FDA-approved materials for use in the food industry and are autoclavable. Their smooth fully moulded components are also easy to clean and quick drying, making them resistant to bacterial growth.
